I consider going to lunch at Da Big Kahuna's a treat. Not because it's a little further drive than most of my regular lunch spots, but because (as it say's on the menu), Da Buggas are Ono!
Located in an industrial area near Honolulu International Airport, Da Big Kahuna's is a well known local eatery. Popular with both nearby workers and the military (Hickam AFB and Fort Shafter Army Base are both nearby), it pays to either call ahead with an order or get there early! There is very limited seating and at lunch the waiting line will often times snake out the door. As you see people exit you will know why, they come out with bags of 10 pizzas and more, and of course there's always the cheeseballs! My personal favorites are the KP (kalua pork) sandwich, the Surfer Sub combo sandwich and "Da Sumo Special" pizza. I try to save Da Big Kahuna's for special occasions (like Wednesdays!) as the food is especially filling and I tend to fall into a somnolescent state immediately after eating :) Great bread, great toppings and a happy staff keep the place busy and once you try the food, you'll always want to go back. You had better get there while you can however. The widening of Puuloa road is a threat to Da Big Kahuna's, and while I'm sure they will reincarnate at another location, it just won't feel the same to us local regulars.
