Still hanging on

I'm still quitely hanging in there in The Meadowlands Survival Challange. Lost my shoe a week ago and just barely hung on by the skin of my teeth Friday. Saturday was a nice day though. Made the front page for the first time in a long while (TheEstimator). I'm currently in 415th place out of the 1,305 remaing players. Wow! A New Post

It's only been a couple of years since my last post. I'll just post on as if nobody noticed :)

The big news? Lost will be previewing their Season Premier here in Honolulu, one week before it airs nationally, at a "Sunset on the Beach" event! Wow! The only way I'm going to beat that madhouse will be with an overnight stay in Waikiki. Mmm.. Maybe not such a bad idea.

Leplan

This is an idea that seems to be a natural for any tourist destination city. Basically it's an electronic tour guide that combines a GPS reciever with destination information and reviews/ratings. This particular model is for Japenese visitors only, but if successful, will be expanded to English and other destinations. A great idea! As an aside to this post, I recently downloaded Fodors guide to Oahua and Waikiki in E-book format, and will be checking it out and giving a review next week.

Self Guided Tour

Saw this article in the Advertiser yesterday about self guided Oahu (and Waikiki) tours. Just the thing if you are a tourist renting a car or bumming one from friends. Probably not a bad idea for us residents also, who mostly don't know half of what we pretend we do. Visit Tour Talk Hawaii for more information.

Review: Da Big Kahuna's

I consider going to lunch at Da Big Kahuna's a treat. Not because it's a little further drive than most of my regular lunch spots, but because (as it say's on the menu), Da Buggas are Ono!

Made in Hawaii Festival

The Made in Hawaii Festival kicks off this Friday at the Blaisdell Center. I'll attend and give a short report, although I can already attest from past visits that it's a great place to find new and exciting made in Hawaii products. Update 8-17-03: It seems that the Festival is a big success again this year. I drove up to Blaisdell center and found the parking lot full and cars being routed away. I drove around the block 3 times and never found any street parking and the lot never opened up again. I gave up and went home. Travel Blog

Okay. So I've decided that this will be a travel blog, covering Honolulu / Oahu with a smattering of neighbor Island information also. I'll start off with some local links that I find useful and move on to restaraunt reviews (as I eat there), golf course reviews (as I play there) and place reviews (whenever I can get there). All reviews will be based on a graded scale with a synopsis and photos/links when possible. I'll write one essay per month (maybe others can contribute also), covering a topic of my choosing (usually about life on Oahu). If things go well, I would like to have guests (friends) post reviews also, following my designated template style. Later I would also like to open up reviews to Kahunaville patrons who have visited the Islands. So that's it for now. I hope to have things in place by this weekend and start reviews by next week (I have the first place already selected :)
